Museum Manager

The Board of Directors of the Kings County Historical and Archival Society, Inc., seeks an enterprising and entrepreneurial Museum Manager whose desirable characteristics include

Ø  Two years of experience with museum, historic site, or other profit, not for profit or public sector organization

Ø  Excellent organizational, inter-personal, written, oral and electronic (social media) skills; written and spoken competence in English required; spoken competence in French an asset

Ø  Above all, the successful candidate must have a passion for promoting Kings County Heritage. Experience in or knowledge of Kings County and its history would be a strong plus

Ø  The ability to manage a community based museum


Duties include

·         Direct public programs, daily tours, educational programs and special events

·         Direct research into collections and public research requests

·         Oversee the interpretation, maintenance and conservation of collections

·         Supervise and train site staff and volunteers

·         Work with the Board to develop a Strategic Plan renewal

·         Expand current and identify new programs, facilities and business opportunities that will provide additional revenue and complement the mission of the organization

·         Oversee the development and management of the annual budget and operations plan

·         Oversee a robust communications plan through publications, Web site, social media and public relations

·         Manage a staff of 3 - 4 seasonal staff and numerous volunteers

·         Oversee earned income activities such as admission fees, museum shops and special events

·         Oversee fundraising activities to achieve operating, special project and capital support from government, foundations, corporations and individuals.

·         Work collaboratively with the Treasurer to maintain the books and ledgers of the Society


The Museum Manager reports directly to the Kings County Historical and Archival Society Board of Directors. Salary and benefits competitive. Term of employment: Full-time seasonal to start (approximately May-September). Stipend in off-season.
