The Old Kings County Gaol (Jail)

When coming to the Kings County Museum, tours are available not only for the exhibit on display, but you also have the opportunity to tour the Kings County Gaol (Jail). The gaol was originally located in Kingston, New Brunswick and moved to Hampton in 1871 when the shiretown (county seat) was moved from Kingston to Hampton. Its doors have been closed for use since 1971, but the stories of the jail live on!

Today the stone end of the building is the old gaol, and directly connected to it, in what was originally the jailer's quarters, is the Hampton Community Library.  The gaol includes artifacts from both the gaol's past and many other artifacts from the 19th century.

Tour the jail and hear stories about the prisoners who dwelled within these stone walls!
